How it’s Made

Every Turnberry rug is crafted with care in our workshop which is nestled by the Ayrshire coast. Every rug is unique and takes the combined effort of the whole Turnberry team to bring it from your design to your floor.

Design

Whether it's a design bought straight from our website or a bespoke order, each rug we make takes careful planning and follows the same process.

We take the measurements and draw out the design. We then help you select the appropriate yarn and then send away your colours to our specialist dyers. We project your design onto a canvas and calibrate our tufting guns to ensure an even finish and correct pile height.

We have a wide array of different designs in our collection that you buy directly from us to a specified colour and size, but the rugs in our collection are not just limited to the shapes, sizes and colours you can see listed. We can make any design fit any shape and can recolour them to your chosen colours.

Tufting

Here at Turnberry we use the very best in quality yarns: from Merino wool, linen and silk to natural fibre viscose such as bamboo.

With over 120 combined years of combined experience, our tufters have strong arms and steady hands and have an eye for detail and precision, able to make your rug in an array of different shapes, sizes, pile heights and densities.

Shearing

Once we have tufted your rug we then apply a backing to it to preserve the shape and keep the wool together.

The rug is then taken down and sheared to give it an even and sharp finish which really makes the shapes stand out and the colours pop!

Carving

If you want a bit of relief to your rug, our finisher then carves the outline of your rug which gives it a really eye catching 3D effect.

We can have several pile heights to a rug and carving really helps show off that difference in height. We can also carve shapes directly into a base colour to give it a sculpted look.
